Indian Pipes |
|
![]() Photo by Nancy Farlow The dense, dark, and damp forests of Maine are home to an incredibly varied array of plants and fungi. At first glance, one might think these Indian Pipes with their ghostly appearance are also fungi, but they are actually flowering plants in the blueberry family. Indian Pipes, Monotropa uniflora, are one of about 3,000 species of non-photosynthetic (i.e., heterotrophic) flowering plants. More info can be found here. <close window> |
